On December 19, 2005, the Common Laboratory for Mobile Robotics was opened at the Faculty of Eletrical Engineering and Information Technology (FEI), Slovak University of Technology in Bratislava. It is dedicated to research, development, and education. Creation and maintainance is funded by the FEI (1), Faculty of Mathematics, Physics, and Informatics (FMFI) of Comenius University (2), and the company Microstep-MIS (3).
The laboratory was opened by nestor of Slovak robotics, prof. Ing. Václav Kalaš, DrSc. who wished in the presence of Prof. Ing. František Janíček, PhD., dean of FEI STU, prof. Ladislav Jurišica, PhD., head of the department of Automation and Control, Ing. Jozef Omelka, executive director of Microstep-MIS, and RNDr. Andrej Lúčny, representing FMFI UK, good luck and success to the laboratory. Prof. Janíček underlined the importance of the laboratory for recruting new students interested in technological disciplines.
Ing. Richard Balogh presented the laboratory that is functioning from December 1st and explained that it is not starting from level of the ground zero, but follows from a tradition of informal cooperation of Department of Automation and Control, and other members. This can be documented by already realized project of the drawing robot, useful for teaching of programming basics. Guests were also introduced to the operation of the telepresence robotics laboratory.
Another important goal for the laboratory will be promoting and popularization of robotics for public through presentations, workshops, and our traditional contest Istrobot.
Let's wish the new lab a lot of energy, and patience. We welcome all people interested in cooperation and present our results personally to you. The information will be available on the internet at www.robotika.sk
